More information about Goat Milk Shaving Soap

Goat Milk Shaving Soap is a way to bring back the nostalgia of Andy Griffith and Floyd’s barber shop.  Over 50 years ago now, shaving was a way to take your time in the morning with a high quality product to prevent skin irritation, cuts, and toxic chemicals.  Oh yeah, you may not have heard.  Shaving soaps are loaded with chemicals that you would never voluntarily put on yourself – least of all your face!  However, we have written a NEW BLOG about the dangers of conventional shaving soap in a can and ask you to consider switching to goat milk shaving soap as a healthy alternative that honestly..works way better!

Better Lather, Better Cut Protection, Extra Moisturizing

Free Reign Farm’s Goat Milk Shaving Soap

Ingredients: Saponified Tallow, Goat Milk, Stearic Acid, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil.

Use and Care: Use on skin as normal shower or hand soap and enjoy softer skin! Place bar on rack between uses to allow to dry.

Allergy Warning: People with skin allergies should test on a small area first and stop using if irritation occurs.

Please Note.  Due to the nature of our goat milk soaps being all hand processed there will be natural variations in size, shape, and color from batch to batch and even within batches. We think it adds character, goodness knows there were a lot of “characters” who had a hand in making – just ask Ethel the goat!

I try many shaving soap/ creams in the past but your product is the best. It lather easily, the product stay in your skin long enough to shave and most importantly it doesn’t occur any irritation on my sensitive skin

    -Lather easily
-The product will last a long time
-No sign of irritation (i took the unscented one)
    -Ship internationally/ good shipping price
-Great value, price/ size of the product

I use my own pre shave oil (borage oil or pumpkin oil) and i use a natural aftershave such a mix of tea tree oil, water and apple cider vinegar.

Again thanks you for the great product!

I bought this shaving soap and brush for my husband when I was at the Hendersonville, NC apple festival. He shaves his face as well as his head and he loves it! It has a wonderful smell and the lather is wonderful.

In more than 30 years of shaving I have not experienced a smoother shave. No razor burn, no catchy stubble. Excellent masculine scents without musky pretension. Only additional recommendation is using a high-quality, real hair brush (like the one Free Reign sells, also).

I have been experimenting with Free Reign Farm Men’s Shaving Goat Milk Soap. I received it in July 2019. I have tried it while on vacation in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, and at home in California. The amount of water hardness in each state makes a big difference in the quality of the lather. I have tried about five different Goat Milk Shave Soaps from different companies. By far, the Goat Milk Shaving Soap from Free Reign Farms performed the best. The other brands of goat milk shaving soaps produced poor lather, that dissipated very quickly. This is not the case with Free Reign. It produces great lather, and does not dissipate. It also provides good cushion and glide. The instructions I received suggested using very little water to control the amount of lather, and to swirl the Boar Hair shaving brush minimally. This did not work for me, especially in very, very hard water in California. However, by “blooming” the Free Reign Goat Milk shaving soap in just enough water to cover a small “quarter” size piece in a shaving bowl with ridges, I was able to produce yogurt quality lather within about one minute of lathering. I thoroughly recommend Free Reign Goat Milk Shaving soap above all other brands. My method works very well, for a great comfortable shave and a terrific post shave face feel.

I purchased two tubs of the soap through Etsy- Cowboy and unscented. I’ve used the Cowboy twice now and had a great shave this morning- no nicks or irritation. For some background, I’ve been shaving for more than 50 years and for about 20 years with a brush and various soaps or creams. I’ve tried many of the top-tier offerings, both artisan and commercial, across the price spectrum- maybe 35 types. I face lather, which means I take a brush and load the soap onto the brush directly from the tub and create a lather on my face. This soap wants a damp brush, not a brush dripping at all, and quite a heavy load of soap, i.e. lots of swirls. Water is added a little at a time, as you make the lather on your face. I found the soap to have fine slickness, very good cushion, great face feel post-shave, and a very fair price. I also found that the lather did not get too thin, airy or fluffy, but worked best when a nice yogurty-type texture. This soap fluffs up less than others. The tub is quite small across, so it needs a fairly small brush to get in there. I used a similar brush to the one they sell. A small Italian made boar brush. It’s the right size for the tub. Another reviewer suggested bowl lathering, but I’m not going to shave differently to accomodate a product. The scent on my sample of Cowboy is really very weak- I can’t really smell a difference between the Cowboy and the unscented, and I wet them both and then smelled them side-by-side. I have no trouble smelling the scents of my other soap, creams or aftershaves. Both the tubs have the same basic, earthy, wholesome scent. The ingredients list is short and that makes this soap impressive; the lack of additives is quite nice to see. Overall, I do wish the scent ws discenable on the Cowboy, but I will keep using this soap on a rotational basis with others- it really gives nice shave.
